Finding community in fitness...

11/1/2019

While fitness pursuits are individualized, there is one aspect that can be a determining factor when it comes to finding the perfect place to work out:  finding a sense of community.  Beyond fitness goals, community allows us to find a sense of belonging.  It’s what can support us though some difficult times – in or out of the gym – and it can help inject some fun in our day and remind us of what is important:  we’re all in this together.

The beauty of our fitness community at Inspired by Fitness is that both the instructors and members create an atmosphere that make people from all walks of life feel like they’re working out with friends every time they walk into the studio.  And once you become involved in that fitness community, you will have that constant support system around you where people are held accountable and encouraged to make more positive choices.

We asked a few of our members and instructors why finding community in fitness is so important.  Here’s what they had to say…

“When I used to work out on my own at home, my results were mixed because I did not enjoy that how much I pushed myself was entirely dependent on my mood and energy level that day.  Even if I had a plan to follow, finding motivation was sometimes tough especially if I had to deal with work or life stress.  But when I joined Inspired by Fitness, the ebbs and flows in effort and motivation ceased as I became far more focused, and more importantly, found the joy in working out.”
~ Jessica (member since 2015)

“When I first started coming to Inspired by Fitness, I immediately noticed that the atmosphere was different from anywhere I’d been before.  Not only was the variety of fitness classes a positive challenge, but also the little interactions around the studio made me excited to come back for more.  For instance, Bounce classes can make anyone feel silly, but the instructor filled the room with an infectious energy that made the choreography so fun it suddenly turned into an activity I wanted to do repeatedly.”
~ Denise (member since 2015)

“In every class at Inspired by Fitness, I feel like the instructors want me to find and reach my full potential.  Then the fear vanishes of being judged by how fast my legs can spin or how heavy my weights are.  The energy at the studio is fueled by positivity and support, and it infects anyone who walks through the door.  Whenever I’m feeling tired or weak, not only are the instructors great cheerleaders, but the people taking the class alongside me also inspire me to push though.  I know I’ll come to a class filled with people who have the same general goals in mind.”
~ Tracey (member since 2014)

“The smaller class size at Inspired by Fitness allows me to give each person some individualized attention, but it also allows the group to get to know each other.  In each class, we have individual stations so that participants can work at their own pace, as well as group circuits where they can develop some camaraderie though challenging exercises.  When we’re doing partner circuits, I match people up based on similar modifications they may need or long-time members with new members.”
~ Joan (Boot Camp & Circuit Instructor)

“I think our community has formed as a result of the emphasis we place on absolute positive affirmation of each other.  We emphasize movement for fun and offer a variety of options so workouts can be as intense as they want them to be.  There are real relationships that have been developed by our members which make the classes a social experience as well as a workout.”
~ Julie (Spin Instructor)

“The community we’ve created certainly makes me feel very conscious of the messages that I put out into the universe.  It inspires me, brings me indescribable joy, and I feel like the luckiest person in the world to get to work with people who are the strongest, kindest and funniest people I’ve met.  Every day is an honour to be with them.”
~ Sarah (Boot Camp, Butt & Gut & Circuit Instructor)

“How can I describe the amount of love and devotion I have toward our members?  I have so much pride in how they encourage each other and grow individually and as a group.  I am always wanting to improve as a coach to do right by them.  I am excited to go to work every day because I’m not just training a group of people who happen to be my clients, I’m training my friends.”
~ Sherry (Owner)

Not only is fitness good for the mind and body, but by connecting it to community it can also bring you closer to your goals and help you make new friends.  We grow through others and are more likely to be motivated in a group than on our own.  If you’re not already a member of our fabulous fitness community, we encourage you to join today – we promise you won’t regret it!
